Qureshi Brothers at Q Lounge, Banana Island Resort Doha

Think Dum Biryani and you will think of the precursor of modern Indian cuisine, Mr Imtiaz Qureshi and his extended ‘Qureshi’ family of professional chefs.

Legendary chefs to the great Mughal Emperors of India, the ‘Qureshi’ family have spent a great deal of time and effort in researching and developing cuisines reminiscent of the glorious days of the Mughal Empire. His sons, Mohammed Irfan Qureshi and Mohammed Ashfaque Qureshi, are award winning Master Chefs in their own right.

Bringing back the forgotten recipes and cuisines of the Mughals and Persians, the family have conceptualised their own style by using their knowledge of Indian spices and preparations, and have perfected Heritage Cuisines that include the ‘Frontier’ and ‘Dum Pukht’ styles.

The ‘Frontier’ cuisine is considered the legacy of the Grand Master Chef Imtiaz Qureshi, who was responsible for introducing the concept of the ‘stand-up tandoor’ and for adding a touch of perfection to the recipes served at restaurant as well as creating recipes that are now on the menus of tandoori restaurants all over the world. The distinctive and immensely popular ‘Dum Pukht’ cuisine has found a niche for itself with international gourmets worldwide, bearing a resemblance to Persian cuisine.

Indian Bread & Butter Pudding and Saffron Rasmalai…Goodness Gracious Me!

With their father, the Grand Master of Indian cuisine Imtiaz Qureshi being their mentor, the brothers are all set to step foot in Qatar and recreate their award winning delicacies at Q Lounge and Restaurant, Banana Island Resort Doha By Anantara.

Bringing their unique understanding of spices and seasonings they have added to this rich heritage of ancient recipes and culinary secrets with new recipes that showcase their unique perspective on Indian cuisine today.

The General Manager of Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara, Mr. Thomas Fehlbier, welcomed their passion for food: ‘Both chefs have pioneered in the art of North Indian cuisine, as being related to the food heritage of the royal Indian courts, and they are renowned for raising culinary masterpieces to the realm of fine art. The brothers, like their father, are the flag bearers of this unique and historic cuisine that they have used it in a contemporary twist for a modern diner, without compromising on the character of the food.

For hundreds of years, their ancestors had been cooking for the great Moghuls and now food lovers in Qatar will have a unique opportunity to relish age old recipes and exotic dishes created for royalty’.

Q Lounge & Restaurant

Qatar Eating had the pleasure of attending a special VIP dinner and sampled a variety of the Qureshi’s signature dishes including a lightly seasoned Tiger Prawn Moilee; a delicious Aloo Matter curry; and a delicate Velvet of Chicken Soup with almond and saffron.

The Chicken Biryani competed with the dessert as the highlight of the evening – beautifully cooked individual grains of rice seasoned with a deft hand and cooked to perfection. Dessert was a decadent Jiwara Chocolate Mousse, made with Valrhona milk chocolate, and complemented by a creamy Mango Kulfi Parfait!

Diners can try the Qureshi brothers cuisine at Q Lounge & Restaurant until 11th October 2015.
