Qatar Eating

Chef’s Garden Doha – An Oasis in the Desert!

Dishes made from fresh, locally-sourced and organic produce – surely we are not talking about a Doha restaurant? And yet that’s exactly the message that Chef’s Garden Doha is keen to get across.

Chef’s Garden has made fresh local food part of their ethos and have gone the extra mile in doing so. Up to 70% of their current menu is organic, with dishes made from produce sourced from Al Safwa Farm (Qatar’s only certified organic farm). The farm provides a huge array of produce including peppers, carrots, aubergine, squash and asparagus.

Organic, local and seasonal fruit and vegetables sourced from Al Safwa Farms.

To be fair quite a few of Qatar’s F&B venues (including Market, Nonna Zanon and Al Jazeera Cafe) have been making an effort to source seasonal ingredients for use in their menu. But Chef Eric Cousin is a keen advocate of the ‘farm-to-table’ concept and has worked with Al Safwa Farms to focus on the organic and seasonal produce available in Qatar.

He has even gone so far as having two tonnes of soil transported to Education City to make the Chef’s Garden Farm. Located within the grounds of the Marwan Club the farm produces ingredients such as cabbages, broccoli, courgettes and herbs, which may be used in a diner’s dish the very next day!

With rising demand for fresh locally-sourced produce Chef’s Garden Doha has taken the long, rocky road by attempting to provide seasonal dishes using local organic produce. This includes local organic eggs which are a particular highlight of their breakfast menu, with choices including Eggs Benedict, Goat Cheese Omelette or Egg Shakshouka.
