Why We Think Jwala is LIT!

Jwala – Doha’s newest Indian restaurant is named after the Indian word for flame, and we think it is pretty LIT!

The interiors are on point with street art and plenty of retro Bollywood references.

The menu is conceptualised as a new take on Indian street food, with plenty of retro beverages such as Badam Milk, Indian Filter Coffee and Lassi. Prices are slightly higher than expected, although the breads are cheaper than most competitors.

We had a quick pit stop to try a menu item – the mild Kadai Murgh, a chicken curry dish with peppers and tomatoes. It was a flavourful curry dish but a return visit is definitely in order to fully assess the menu.

Jwala is Lit!

Here are our top three reasons for why we think Jwala is LIT!

1. The Interiors

The attention to detail is excellent – look in one corner and you can imagine old-school Mumbai with its Bollywood posters, and small goods market ‘selling’ groceries, toys, and sweets.

On the other side you get vibes of India with the servers wearing rajasthani-stye turbans, and colourful street art depicting traditional puppets.

They really missed a trick not having an Indian sweets seller with sweet Mithai, and freshly-made Jalebis – this would have personified the theme in a rather delicious manner.

2. The Live Band

They have a live band seated on the floor singing well known Bollywood tracks from back in the day…all they need is an accordion!

An atmospheric dining experience indeed with lyrics such as “Mere Dil Mein Yuun Hi Rahana Tum Pyaar Pyaar Ban Ke” – remain in my heart forever having become love itself. (Thanks to our colleague for the translations!)

3. Bollywood Nostalgia

The music, the art, and the props = Bollywood Nostalgia.
