Menu Review: Chili’s, City Centre Mall

Visited Chili’s today and received some sad news – the sweet potato fries I loved so much are no more. With the New Year came a new menu for Chili’s and unfortunately my beloved golden fries received the chop, and were dropped from the revised menu.

Following a dietary restriction these fries were one of two options I had for eating fries in a restaurant. The other item was Polenta Chips from a restaurant which never seemed to have it available no matter what time of day I ordered it. Now what can a girl do about her fries craving?

On the other hand, the good news is that the 2015 menu has some interesting new dishes including Queso Pepper Steak, Spicy Grilled Shrimp Tacos and Beef Bacon Ranch Quesadillas. There are two new honey-based sauces for the BBQ Beef Ribs – Honey BBQ and Honey Chipotle.

I personally like the sound of the two different chicken salads; the Boneless Buffalo Chicken and the Santa Fe Chicken Salad. Although they have been seasoned differently, they both have ranch dressing, pico del gallo, and tortilla strips which always add extra texture and flavour to chicken.

I would like to try the Mango Chile Chicken which has a mango glaze and chopped mangoes. But I am really excited about the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich – which has a delicious layer of cheese sauce. The one thing I cannot visualise is the Fried Cheesecake dessert – whose idea was it to ruin Cheesecake?

Desserts only come in one size at Chili’s – Extra Large – and with it comes a matching price tag, however if shared then it is less of a drain on your pocket. Be aware that if you have had a heavy meal then the following dessert should not be ordered, unless there happen to be at least three of you to eat it.

I can recommend the Molten Chocolate Cake which is one gigantic dessert – a chocolate fudge-filled cake which comes with vanilla ice cream. Resembling a volcano the dessert is warm and has a hard chocolate shell on the cold ice cream. Cracking through the chocolate layer is quite fun and the different ingredients provide a texturally smooth yet crunchy dish.

Check out the new menu at your local Chili’s and whilst you are there take advantage of their current Dinner for 2 offer – you can pick an appetiser and two entrees for QR 99. If you are unsure of what items that covers on the menu then double-check with your server.
