Time for another Ramadan Tent! Qatar Eating was recently invited by the Sheraton Doha to Suhoor at their Ramadan Tent. It was the first actual tent we have visited this Ramadan – most venues have lavishly decorated their existing restaurants or ballrooms so it made a nice change to see a real tent had been erected by the Sheraton.

Sheraton Doha – Ramadan Tent 2015
The Sheraton have arranged their Ramadan Tent on the sea view terrace of the Al Majlis Ballroom; it was lovely to have windows and an outside view. Guests visiting the Ramadan Tent can use the Al Majlis car park and entrance.
The Ramadan Tent at the Sheraton has been tastefully decorated with beautiful Ramadan Lanterns and dainty chandeliers. The opulent furnishings lend an air of occasion to the venue, whilst the Ramadan Tent itself is decorated in hues of blue and gold – the blue ambient lighting makes a nice change to the many pink shades utilised across the city. An Arabian Nights feeling surrounded the Ramadan Tent with palm trees (especially the real ones seen through the windows), water features and desert paintings.
As you enter the Sheraton’s Al Majlis entrance you are greeted by an elegant hostess and led through a ‘candle-lit’ path to the Ramadan Tent – it all adds a little drama to your evening out.
The path leads to the actual entrance of the Ramadan Tent which is surrounded by palm trees and the calming sounds of running water from the fountains. The Sheraton has managed to portray the feeling of an Arabian Night with night sky and desert backdrops and sparkling decorative accessories – it is elegance and grandeur captured. They also have a live Arabic band with some rather talented musicians doing their own solos.
The Suhoor buffet is arranged directly outside the Ramadan Tent, and covers both International and Arabic cuisine. Ramadan Tents are an occasion and at the Sheraton they have recognised how to provide a Ramadan Tent experience without overloading the senses. There is an excellent variety of salads and vegetable dishes, and a focus on Ramadan specials with Arabic cuisine represented in both hot courses and the desserts station. The dates and dried fruits are beautifully displayed in traditional wooden boxes. There are a variety of cold mezze and salads; highlights included a tasty Seafood Salad, Vegetable Terrine and an Artichoke Mushroom Salad.
The hot courses are a good mix of meats and vegetables with some interesting Arabic dishes available such as Molokhia.
Live cooking stations serve up Pasta, Shwarma, Saj, Manakesh and a special Falafel recipe. Foul Medamas is also available as well as soups and a variety of hot main courses including Shwarma,Fish Kebab, Mix Grill, Seafood Rice and yummy Oriental Spiced Pickles..
Sheraton’s Arabian Nights Ramadan Tent spoils its diners with an variety of Ramadan Specialities including the popular Jallab and Laban beverages and the epic Arabic desserts including Umm Ali. The desserts station had an excellent selection of Arabic sweets, fruits and continental cakes and tarts. Standouts were the almond chocolate cake, and a lovely light mousse concoction – ah who am I kidding…desserts featured heavily on my plate!
The Umm Ali has been described as ‘legendary’ by a legend himself, and we couldn’t agree more – if ever a dish needed an Ode this is the one! (The Sheraton makes three other flavours of this traditional dish including chocolate – we foresee an Umm Ali Ode post in the near future!).
The Suhoor Buffet is available from 8.30pm until 2.00am , and is priced at QR290 per person including soft beverages.
You can also book private and corporate suhoors for larger groups and gatherings, and outside Ramadan catering is also available. Do note that only Suhoor is available at the Ramadan Tent – you can head to the Al Hubara Restaurant for Iftar from sunset to 8.30pm (priced at QR210).
